Creative Scrappers: Sketch #233

I woke up this morning with butterflies in my stomach... Why, you may ask? It is my first reveal day as a Creative Scrappers designer!! Woo!Hoo! This week's CS sketch came to us from the talented Juliana Michaels.

Awesome, isn't it? Chevrons are so in right now in the scrapbooking world and this sketch made me see them in a new light!! As soon as I saw it, I thought of the great times we always have at my sister's pool each Summer when we head down to Cape Breton for our vacation. It made me think of waves and bubbles and fun!! Most importantly, it made me think of my nephew, Benoît, and how he loves all the fun that comes from playing in the water. And can you imagine? I had a great photo of him in the pool all ready to be scrapped!! Yahoo!

When I knew I was going to scrap this picture using Juliana's sketch, I instantly grabbed my leftovers of Echo Park's Splash collection. It's been a favourite of mine ever since it came out. It's just perfect for all things Summer - pool, beach, vacation, fun, you name it! I did my chevrons the old-fashioned way: grabbing a template a made for last year's Christmas cards, tracing it and cutting it, one chevron at a time. And although I had a great time doing it, fellow CS designer, Laura Whitaker, made hers using a Julia Stanton online tutorial. It's already saved in my favourites! Hee!Hee! My sister, Benoît's mother, and avid scrapbooker herself, called me up after lunch today to ask me if I could find out how Laura made her chevrons because of their dimension. Scrapbooking blogs and YouTube for the win!! Hee!Hee!

Now, when I was working on this layout, I was also drawn to the circular shapes on the sketch. I tried and tried to use embellishments that reminded me of bubbles, but it just wasn't working for me. So, I said to myself, "Aurélie, step away from the circles," and I grabbed some star shapes instead. Once I liked where those were, I then added buttons, metal embellishments and Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze to create that splash of goodiness across the page. And yes! I couldn't not stitch on my layout, so I grabbed a Bazzill Basics stitching template and sewed those little lines under my title. Buttons and metal embellishments are from Stampin' Up and Close to My Heart, chipboard stars are from Magenta, and alphas from Prima, October Afternoon, American Crafts and My Little Shoebox. Do you think I like to mix and match alphas? Hee!Hee! Oh! And I almost forgot! I also used a good ol' piece of CTMH cardstock for my bacground which is pretty amazing in itself because I hardly ever use cardstock on anything.

So, are you ready to see amazing designs done with this sketch? Head on over to Creative Scrappers, and be prepared to lift your chin off the floor! The girls from Team A did a wicked job! Oh! And of course, you have until December 1, 2012, to please link your own creation using this sketch on this week's CS' reveal blog post for your chance to win a prize package from its November sponsor Peace, Love & Scrapbooking. Happy scrapping!
